EKO – Energy system for lighting
Wagfors EKO system is a simple way of bringing security to streets, squares and parks without compromising on lighting or safety. Energy costs are reduced by 30–50 per cent and the environment benefits immediately!
Three different variants of EKO system
|
SPS |
Large system for street lighting, for example |
|
Tronic |
For city environments |
|
Mini |
For smaller applications such as car parks, sports arenas, warehouses, cycle paths, tunnels, corridors and other small areas |
Wagfors EKO system is installed next to a transformer station or lighting control station. Dimming of lighting is controlled centrally. There are numerous benefits:
|
- |
Energy needs are reduced by up to 50 per cent. The investment pays for itself in four to five years through kilowatt-hours saved and less maintenance. The environment benefits straightaway. |
|
- |
The perceived lighting is effectively unchanged, which is important for peace of mind and safety. |
|
- |
Voltage is reduced in small steps, which means that EKO can also accommodate very sensitive light sources. The lifetime of light sources is extended. |
|
- |
Maintenance costs are dramatically reduced, since dimming is controlled centrally (compare with individual control of light sources!) and thanks to the longer lifetime of light sources. |
|
- |
EKO can be used in existing installations and is easy to install. |
|
- |
The lifetime of EKO is at least as long as that of the lighting installation: 20–25 years. |
The EKO system allows energy use to be reduced without comprising on convenience or security
Helsingborg saves almost 50% on energy bill
“We’ve tried saving energy in the past by switching off every other light. People didn’t like that. When we dimmed the lights we didn’t hear a single complaint – which is a good result! The system is just as convenient and reassuring. Financially, I estimate we’re saving around SEK 1.5 million each year. The environmental benefits are also considerable. We’ve reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 1,000 tonnes a year, which is equivalent to the emissions of 400 cars which drive 15,000 kilometres each year.”

Björn Johansson, electrical engineer for Helsingborg City Engineering Administration, who was able to apply for a grant from Klimp – the climate investment programme run by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. At present Helsingborg dims half the 25,000 lights in the city. |
